We cruised up to Daytona Beach today, through absolutely mirrorlike waters on the ICW.

It was a flybridge day with temps around 75 with clear blue skies.

There was a huge maze of islands between the ICW and the Atlantic Ocean beach for a long part of the trip. On the chart above, the ICW is the little dotted tracks just above the words "Indian River" and there are 3 miles of islands in a maze between the ICW and the ocean beaches. It looks like a fisherman's dream....that is until you get lost in there just about sunset, when it turns into a nightmare.

One of the many islands we passed was is a sea bird rookery, with hundreds of egrets and brown pelicans. For some reason, one island becomes the favorite spot for all of these birds to roost and nest.
On the mainland side of the channel were all of these white stakes in the shallow flats. We think they are for oyster beds. There's also an osprey in the picture that had a fish in it's claws.

Tomorrow we'll be going to Saint Augustinie, FL. On the way there, we'll stop to pick up Harry and Deb Vellines, long time friends from Sears, who will cruise with us to St. Augustine. It'll be nice to see them again and swap stories.
