Cruising today.
Just for fun, we took Julie & Larry through the ICW up to the Savannah River, out the Savannah Inlet (where the ocean going ships go) to the Atlantic Ocean, South to the Wassau Island inlet and back up the Wilmingtin River to our marina. When we got close to the Savannah River on the ICW, we could see this huge liquid or gas transport ship across the salt marshes, docked on the Savannah River.

Going through the ICW, we passed through many salt marsh flats. There are many, many square miles of salt marsh and "low country" channels in these river systems next to the ocean. We picked a deep "creek" to pull out of the ICW and went about 1/2 mile up the creek to anchor for lunch before entering the Savannah River. It was a nice, quiet, peaceful spot, but mostly just salt marsh to see. Luckily, no bugs to speak of. (However, there are many little biting gnats to speak of at our marina in Thunderbolt....we have to close up the windows by 6 PM because they appear just before dusk and are also bad at dawn.)

Out on the Atlantic Ocean, we cruised about 4 miles offshore so land was always visible.
Waves were only about 3 ft. in the ocean and 4 ft. coming out the inlet (waves are frequently bigger at the inlets if the tide is going out and the wind is coming in). After we got a few miles out, we noticed again that the usual pelicans and seagulls were gone and there were mostly gannets out on the open sea. We also saw lots of dolphins surfacing in the water but only one or two surfing our wake and too far back to see well. We got back to the marina before 3 PM.
